Recurring events are our memories shows, booyah sales and annual used book sale.
And we can always use more photos for our Military Wall titled “Honor and Remember”!
The Green Bay Packers Give Back
A $500.00 Grant
Tim Rasmussen, President of the Howard-Suamico Historical Society volunteered over 200 hours while working on the house, barn, and Tremble School at Ancestry Acres during the first six months of 2025. By doing so, the Green Bay Packers Give Back awarded the Howard Suamico Historical Society a grant for $500.00 in a way of supporting Tim and the time he gave to the Historical Society.
Thank you to the Green Bay Packers. Thank you Tim for all the hard work given by him and all the volunteers in working on the house, barn and Tremble School at Ancestry Acres.
Used Book Sale
2026 Book Sale
Thursday August 6th 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and
Friday August 7th 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
The April Used Book Sale was a Huge Success
The Howard-Suamico Historical Society held its semi-annual used book sale on Friday April 24th and Saturday April 25th. The sale was set up in the barn and under the big tent at Ancestry Acres, 12787 Velp Avenue. Our customers had a good selection with over 300 boxes of books to choose from. All of the books are collected throughout the year at Kimps Ace Hardware in Howard and at the Suamico Village Hall.
All proceeds from the sale will be used to support projects sponsored by the Society.

We are always collecting books for our annual used book sale. If you have any books, cd’s, album’s, 45’s, DVD’s, Blu-ray’s, puzzles or board games. They can be dropped off at the Village of Suamico offices, or Kimps Ace Hardware Howard.

The public is invited to check out a slate of exciting and diverse events presented by expert staff in unique historical environments. Go to one location, or try and make them all.
There are 13 events planned for the week of May 10 – 16, 2026 at locations throughout the area.

Experience a vibrant afternoon of Hmong history and culture through traditional clothing, music, dance, and food shared by community members and culture bearers. This celebration takes place ahead of Hmong-Lao Veterans Day on May 14, a Wisconsin-recognized day honoring the thousands of Hmong-Lao veterans who bravely fought alongside the United States during the Vietnam War and now call Wisconsin home. This event is FREE, with regular museum admission.

Becoming a Dining Car Chef: A Railroad Cooking Class
Tuesday, May 12 – Saturday, May 16 2026 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Taste what passengers on the Union Pacific ate by preparing two historic recipes from the UP Dining Car and Hotel Department. As museum curator, Daniel Liedtke, guides you through the recipe, he will also give a history of dining on the rails, show examples of railroad china, and provide a tour of a restored dining car. Participants will be provided with printed copies of recipes to take home. Limited to 10 people per class. Reservations required for this FREE workshop at dliedtke@nationalrrmuseum.org.

Join Michelle Bartoletti and discover what was happening in Howard-Suamcio at the birth of the United States, 250 years ago. With access to water routes and resources, the area became a fur trading hub. Bartoletti will share stories of the fur trade and its impact shaping the region’s settlement. Call to order: The March Meeting of HSHS was called to order by President, Tim Rasmussen at 6:00 p.m.
Roll Call: Present: Tim Rasmussen, Ellery Gulbrand, Brian Gillaume, Jan Deneys,
Geri Corbeille, Steve Pamperin, Michelle Bartoletti Tom Mooren
Excused: Barb Styczynski
Minutes: The minutes of the February meeting were presented for approval at this time. Motion to approve was
made by Michelle Bartoletti and seconded by Tom Mooren. Motion carried.
Treasurer Report : Steve Pamperin presented Treasurer’s Report. HSHS assets are $29,040.30. Tom Mooren
made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report and to pay outstanding bills. Motion seconded by
Michelle Bartoletti. Motion carried.
New Business:
Tom Mooren suggested HSHS place some of the HSHS funds in a CD. Following discussion, the following
motion was made. Tom Mooren made a motion to place $15,000 into a CD with Steve Pamperin checking
for the best rate. Motion seconded by Michelle Bartoletti. Motion carried.
Tim Rasmussen reported that HSHS needs a 2026 Nominating Committee. Michelle Bartoletti volunteered
for this position.
Tim Rasmussen appointed Michelle Bartoletti, Brian Gillaume, and Geri Corbeille to the 2026 HSHS
Banquet Committee.
Michelle Bartoletti reported she is working on the report and program for the Brown County History Event
at Ancestry Acres on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
Brian Gillaume reported the Spring Used Book Sale will be held on April 24 and 25, 2026. The .sale on
April 24 will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and April 25 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Help is needed for moving books on
Saturday, April 11 at 9 a.m.
Tim Rasmussen reported the Memories Show on Saturday, February 14 was well attended and was a
success.
Old Business:
Tim Rasmussen reported Florence Banaszak (donbona@msn.com) is always looking for articles for the
HSHS Newsletter. The next deadline is April 10, 2026.
Tim Rasmussen reported reservations to use Ancestry Acres are coming in. At present there are (5) dates
reserved.
Barb Styczynski needs ideas for the presentations at our General Meetings. If you have suggestions, contact
Barb or any HSHS officer.
Ellery Gulbrand made a motion to adjourn with the second by Michelle Bartoletti. Motion carried.
